Textile ETP

VITO NV is an independent Flemish Research organization, with approximately 1000 employees. It implements customer-oriented research and develops sustainable innovative products and processes for both the public and private sectors in the areas of chemistry, environment, materials, food and energy.

The goal of VITO is to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world. Together with industry and academia, the Sustainable Polymer Technologies (SPOT) team fights for a greener future by developing more sustainable materials that exceed current standards and limitations. The SPOT team thereby focusses on lignin as a biobased building block, chemical recycling of polymers into valuable building blocks and new material design from and for recycling. To facilitate market introduction, the team also highly invested in pilot infrastructure, i.e. LignoValue XL, to scale-up and demonstrate the developed processes.

Their role in PESCO-UP

VITO is work package leader and will contribute by the production of innovative recycled polyols and the development of new PU materials from this recycled polyester feedstock. VITO will also contribute in the evaluation and selection of the most suitable technology and focus on the the development of the final PU demonstrator.

VITO will be performing a techno-economic assessment (TEA) on the novel PESCO-UP technologies. The purpose of a TEA is to gain insights into the economic viability of the proposed concept early in its development stage, and to provide guidance for further research activities by identifying the main parameters (both technical and economic) that determine the economic feasibility.
