Nordic Bioproducts Group

Nordic Bioproducts Group (NBG) is the new, independent hub for cellulose innovation, bioproduct development, and commercialization in the Nordics. The company is a spin off from Aalto University and was founded in 2019.

NBG's innovations are based on the patented Aaltocell™ technology which is a next-generation, sustainable technology that harnesses the power of cellulose to create high-value biomaterials for use across a wide range of industries. Textiles is one of these industries and NBG has two major innovations emerging for a more responsible textile industry. The first is a recycling process for polycotton textiles that allows cotton and polyester to be separated and recycled. The second is wood based Norratex™ textile fiber that can be produced without toxic chemicals in a cost-effective way.

Their role in PESCO-UP

Nordic Bioproducts Group leads the mechanical separation of CO-PES blended fibers and the Aaltocell™ process. NBG also plays a key role in the demonstration of upcycling cotton-PES blend textiles, involving tasks such as evaluating purification routes, developing polyester and PU demonstrators, creating cellulose packaging film, and a circular textile demonstrator.

Additionally, NBG is engaged in project management, the purification of blend textiles, the utilisation of cotton fraction from blend textiles, and in fostering market uptake and dissemination.
